Metal vs Clear Braces vs Invisible Braces Invisalign®

Metal vs Clear Braces vs Invisible Braces Invisalign®

There are 4 of options for orthodontic treatment. Specifically, a patient can choose between metal braces, clear braces, invisible braces and Invisalign®

Metal Braces
These are the most commonly placed braces. The metal braces used in our office are of the highest quality materials. They are generally made of surgical grade stainless steel and are very small and highly polished. Our braces are all made in the USA by top companies such as 3M and American Orthodontics. Our younger patients generally prefer to have colors placed on the braces as an expression of their style and individuality. The number of colors and color combinations available are only limited by the imaginations of our patients.

Clear Braces
Most adults and some younger patients who prefer undergo orthodontic treatment discretely choose the option of clear braces. Colors can be placed on the clear braces if a patient chooses to do so. There is no difference in the amount of time it takes to complete treatment with clear braces versus metal braces. The only difference is the aesthetic advantage of the clear braces as compared to the metal.

Invisible Braces
When a case is too complex for Invisalign® and braces are a necessity but a patient wants to make his or her treatment truly invisible, we place lingual braces. Lingual braces are completely customized on a per patient basis. Each and every brace is custom made for the specific tooth it will be glued to for that specific individual. Therefore, even though the patient is indeed undergoing full orthodontic treatment with actual braces, only the patient and the doctor know.

Invisalign®
Some patients prefer to have their treatment done as discretely as possible for personal or professional reasons. They also enjoy the option of being able to remove their “braces” on their own during specific situations if the need arises. For them, Invisalign® is clearly the best choice. The aligners are completely clear and nearly invisible. They are changed every 2 weeks and replaced with new aligners which continue moving the teeth in the desired manner.
